We are thrilled to announce that SE3D Education was recently awarded the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant for 2015. The team at SE3D Education would like to take this opportunity to thank National Science Foundation (NSF) for giving us this opportunity to develop new technology for education.

My 3D printer can bioprint... right? NOT

As you move in closer and notice that there is no spool for filament, one becomes a bit puzzled and asks the question, “Dr. Lim, this is a 3D printer right?” In some ways but its features and applications are very different than the 3D printers most educators are familiar with. What is bioprinting and what is it used for? What is bioprinting? 3D bioprinting is a rapidly growing field, but what exactly does it entail? Much like a 3D printer, it leverages the concept of additive manufacturing to create layers of tissue-like structures often including cells. By using the same tools in 3D design and deposition, scientists can use bioprinting technology to create intricate and sophisticated structures needed to build tissues and organs. While the capabilities of bioprinting have not yet reached the level depicted by popular culture, we are on the brink of a bioprinting revolution and fully transplantable organs should be feasible within the next decade.
